Even in Egypt
nothing falls apart
|
With Grotan, in 1924
Schülke
and Mayr have written a special chapter in history: Grotan is the first
preservative to be used in the manufacture of glue. Glue - to be more
precise bone glue and casein glue - is used in Egypt in woodworking as
early as 3500 BC. The profession of glue-maker also stems from the time
of the 18th dynasty. The Romans increase the range of glues used at the
time to include fish-glue. Both bone glue and fish glue still have
their firm place in the workshops of furniture restorers and cabinet
makers.

With Grotan glues
stay sticky

The development of
modern adhesives
only really starts after 1910, with industrialisation. Organic
adhesives, which are processed in the form of aqueous adhesive
emulsions, continue to play an important role. As a result of the
antimicrobial effect of Grotan the aqueous adhesive emulsions remain
stable - the time-consuming warming and dissolution of the glues, which
actually are crystalline, becomes unnecessary. Today, under the name
Grotan, Schülke & Mayr provides industry with a wide
range of product innovations, the majority of them to ensure the
stability of coolants.
