German eco-label „Blue Angel“: New opportunities to preserve emulsion paints
The single active 1,2-Benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one, called BIT, is now on annex 1 of the basic criteria RAL UZ 102 for the German eco-label „Blue Angel“ (Blauer Engel) for low emssion wall paints. For in-can preservation the BIT can either be used on it’s own up to 200 ppm or in combination with other actives mentioned on annex 1, with immediate effect. Until now only a limited amount of MI (100 ppm), CMI/ MI (50 ppm, according EU restriction 15 ppm) and IPBC (80 ppm) has been approved as well as formaldehydedonors (max. 100 ppm splittable formaldehyde). Schülke & Mayr offers a wide range of preservatives that can be used according to the requirements of the Blue Angel/ Blauer Engel, i.e. Parmetol D 11.
